Hopi Child's Bachelor's Blanket

Item: HOR5225C
Material: Wool
Size: 27" x 34"
Period: Historic
Origin: Hopi Pueblo

This is a late 19th century Hopi Pusal'hoya or baby boy's blanket woven in natural native hand spun wool and hand gathered hand spun cotton. The weave is a warp faced twill that has a traditional three banded plaid pattern. Blankets like these are rare as they were used by male children from the time of birth as their most common piece of clothing and as such were generally worn until unusable. This example is in surprisingly good condition with original side and end cords as well as all six tassels intact.
