This is an early 20th century traditionally made and fired Acoma black on white pottery canteen with a hand carved cottonwood root stopper. The bulbous form features two rounded handles and a flat back. This size canteen would be for individual use like taking to a day of work in the fields. It is decorated with bands of hatchured scallops, alternating scallops and a central floral motif. The base is entirely painted in orange with a scalloped edge.
