This a late 19th century Navajo twilled double saddle blanket woven entirely in native hand spun wool in hand dyed aniline red, purple, two shades of orange, and natural ivory. The textile is woven using the diagonal twill technique and features a two panel design. The large rectangular panels with fields of bright orange are separated horizontally by bands of alternating colors. The panels are further bisected by vertical bands of stacked diamonds. This saddle blanket was likely reserved for dress up occasions like ceremonies or parades as it is finely woven and has more design than other examples from the period.
