Navajo Twill Double Saddle Blanket, c.1890

Item: AOR5360C
Material: handspun wool
Size: 46" x 34"

Origin: Navajo

This is a late 19th century Navajo twilled double saddle blanket woven entirely in native hand spun wool in natural hand carded grey, dark brown, and hand dyed aniline red and orange. The design is uncharacteristically elaborate with five broad horizontal bands of red with repeating cross and "I" form motifs bordered by a sawtooth pattern all on a grey field. The textile is in very good condition with intact tassels at all four corners.
