This is a mid to late 19th century Hopi cotton manta with indigo and cochineal borders. Typical of woman's dress up regalia this manta features a entirely hand spun cotton field with broad bands of cochineal dyed red wool and indigo dyed blue wool. The wide red borders above and below the field are separated by thin white lines into five bands of red with diamond twill indigo dyed wool to the long edges. This style of manta is worn by both women who attend and witness ceremonies as well as the kachina dancers that perform them.
