Textiles Yei

This style, developed in the 1920s by Will Evans, the trader at Shiprock, N. M. shows a line of stylized yeiis or Navajo Holy People. The first rugs showed a single figure against a gray background, but soon whole rows of yeiis were woven surrounded by the rainbow god. The figures are usually in bright, synthetic colors against a white or light ground. Yeii rugs are also woven around Lukachukai and Upper Greasewood beginning in the 1930s. Rugs from these posts usually have red, brown or black backgrounds with simpler figures.
