Leonard Nez

Born in Keams Canyon, AZ in 1957, Leonard Nez is the first in his family to have become a silversmith. After marrying his wife Marian, from whom he learned his skills, Leonard began making jewelry in 1977. Leonard is the father of four children and has seven grandchildren. He was won many awards for team roping since 1983 and enjoys participating in the Navajo National Rodeo Cowboy Association and all Indian Rodeo Cowboy Association events. Leonard makes his jewelry from sterling silver and also works with 14 and 18 carat gold. His love of fine turquoise and red coral inspires him to fabricate one-of-a-kind creations. A silver bowl that he made is on permanent display at the Smithsonian.
