Charles Lovato

Charles Lovato (1937-1987) is one of the most noted painters to come out the Santo Domingo Pueblo. He rarely painted with any traditional influence, opting for a abstract style. While his paintings made Lovato famous, he was an artist in many different mediums. He was a poet, muralist, illustrator, and craftsman.

The only traditional work that Lovato did was jewelry as he made incredible heishi necklaces. These necklaces are well known throughout Santo Domingo Pueblo.

Later in life, his paintings were generally accompanied by a poem, stating that each had great influence on the other.
