This is a late 20th century Santa Clara blackware jar with an Avanyu motif by Teresita Naranjo. The jar was traditionally made and fired and has a high polish. The plumed serpent (Avanyu) motif was a favorite of the Santa Clara artist and here it is rendered in relief carving in a horizontal band just above the shoulder. The jar is in very good condition with no restoration or repair and is clearly signed on the base.
