Dextra Quotskuyva Nampeyo

Dextra Quotskuyva (b.1928) is a Hopi-Tewa potter who is the fifth generation of a family of potters that includes Nampeyo, matriarch of Hopi Sityaki pottery. She was raised making pots in the traditional style pioneered by her great-grandmother Nampeyo, but after the death of her mother began developing her own distinctive style. She has been named an Arizona Living Treasure, has received numerous life time achievement awards, was the subject of a book and a one-woman retrospective at the Wheelwright Museum. Her exceptional workmanship and innovative use of traditional materials make her one of the most important potters of the twentieth century.
