Edward Curtis

Edward S. Curtis (1868-1952) was a photographer and ethnographer who created the monumental twenty-volume “The North American Indian”, a seminal work which documented over 80 Native American tribes at the beginning of the twentieth century. Although criticized for occasionally staging his subjects with anachronistic outfits, his work continues to be an invaluable resource to the study of the art and culture of Native American tribes in the 20th century.
