July 2017 Keri Ataumbi

For her newest collection “From my studio: Feathers to Diamonds”, jeweler Keri Ataumbi draws inspiration from traditional Kiowa adornment.

Ataumbi uses materials time-honored by Native peoples, such as porcupine hairs, feathers, seeds and brain-tanned hide. She combines these with gold, pearls and rubies along with other materials historically found in western jewelry. By combining these mediums, she is creating a narrative which challenges culturally held notions of value.
