Bold Choices and Blank Spaces: The Artistry of Diné Weaving 1890-1940
Weaving is an act of creation, an artistic process that requires immense skill, patience and time. For our newest collection, we focus on weavings with striking graphics and an enormously developed sense of design.
The use of negative space, of allowing the eye to create shapes where none exist, and the movement inherent in repetition all contribute to the dynamic qualities of these weavings.
Many of the textiles in this collection deviate from established conventions of weaving design, showing a range of personality and creativity that are a lasting legacy to the weavers who made them.
