This is a late 20th century Navajo Yei Rug woven in hand spun natural gray, vegetal dyed light brown and yellow/green, and commercial brown, copper, black, and white. The design features four Yei figures in traditional regalia across center of a brown field. While the weaving does not depict a specific ceremony, it contains various ceremonial symbols. The yei figures are separated by large wedding baskets, used used in nearly every significant life event from the birth of a child, to a wedding, the blessing of a home, and healing ceremonies. The field is further decorated with copper colored lighting bolt symbols, and a border of six feather motifs along one side. Provenance: This weaving comes from the collection of Ed Foutz, fourth generation trader & owner/operator of the original Shiprock Trading Post in Shiprock, NM.
