This is a mid 20th century Zuni mosaic inlay pin in the form of a butterfly with bifurcated wings set with dark blue natural turquoise, jet, and spiny oyster shell. The mosaic is cut to mimic the lines and design of an actual butterfly to great effect. The body portion done in jet is also set with three small rounds of turquoise while the wings have similar small rounds of red shell. The pin is not signed but attributed to Leo Poblano, one of the best known jewelers at Zuni in the early to mid 20th century.
