This is a contemporary ceramic sculpture titled "Tracker" by Cochiti Pueblo artist Virgil Ortiz. This piece was originally featured in an exhibit and sale titled "Revolt" in 2009 at Shiprock Santa Fe. The sculpture is made in native clay and paints in the form of a kneeling woman with attached wings on back between the shoulders. She wears three black clay feathers in her hair and her eyes are masked in black paint. She is further adorned with dangling earrings and carries a leather whip. Her painted clothing design is inspired by traditional cochiti pottery designs with repeating geometric motifs. The sculpture is clearly signed on the base.
