This is a late 19th century Navajo Late Classic Period Second Phase chiefs blanket woven entirely in hand spun wool in natural ivory, dark brown, aniline dyed red and indigo dyed blue. The design is typical of the Second Phase style with a background of horizontal stripes alternating in dark brown and ivory with a bands of dark brown and indigo across center, top and bottom. The blanket is further decorated by twelve box motifs, each comprised of two thin bands of red, evenly spaced down the center and along each side.
