This is a contemporary Nambe micaceous pottery bowl, traditionally made and fired by Lonne Vigil. The bowl form is typical of the Northern Rio Grande Pueblos and was often referred to as a stew bowl. The traditional pit firing technique used allows fuel from the fire to fall on the pottery and creates the fire clouds that give the jar it's character. The piece is clearly signed on the base.
