This is a late 19th century Navajo Transitional Period Third Phase chief's blanket woven entirely in native hand spun wool in natural ivory, dark brown, and hand dyed aniline red and purple. The design is typical of the Third Phase style with a broad striped background of ivory and dark brown and red bands across top, center, and bottom, each with thin bands of dark brown and gray on the interior. The blanket is further decorated with nine diamond motifs evenly spaced down the center and halved down each side.
