This is an early to mid 20th century Navajo pictorial rug woven in native hand spun wool in natural ivory, brown, hand carded gray, and hand dyed aniline red, orange, green, and purple. The design features a variegated gray/brown rectangle at center, with three stacked star motifs on the interior, the centermost containing a single bird motif. The central field is surrounded by a band of bird motifs, in alternating bright colors, all on an ivory background. The rug is bordered by a thin band of red along the outer edge.
