Origin:
A late 19th century folk art goat made from wood and comprised of an oblong body on four narrow cylindrical legs with a long slender neck and face, all painted dark brown with white markings. The goat is further decorated with horns, marble eyes, a rope and bell around its neck, and animal hair placed at the tail and under the chin. This goat was used in initiation ceremonies for Odd Fellows Lodge; initiates would ride the goat blind folded while brothers test trust in one another. Provenance: ex. Private Colorado Collection.
