A mid 20th century Navajo pictorial textile from the Red Valley region woven entirely in 4 ply commercial wool in various colors including white, brown, black, blue, red and yellow. The design depicts two figures at center, Mother Earth on the left and Father Sky on the right, representing the origin of all life with their hands and legs crossed to signify the unity of earth and sky. The interior of the Mother Earth figure features the four sacred plants corn, beans, squash and tobacco extending in the four different directions from center, on a bright blue background. The Father Sky figure features two upside down horned moon figures and stars in the form of constellations, all on a black background. The two figures are bordered by a rainbow guardian along the sides and across bottom.
